Hectic morning routines, early sports practices, long bus rides and financial struggle can all prevent students from arriving to school nourished and ready to learn.  The 13th Annual London Knights Charity Golf Tournament presented by London No Frills took place on Friday, August 15th at FireRock Golf Club in support of Investing in Children and the Children’s Nutrition Network.

A mix of current and former London Knights were in attendance along with local sponsors and Knights fans for a day of great golf and a lot of fun!  Some notable players who participated in the tournament included Nazem Kadri, Olli Maatta, Jarred Tinordi, Scott Harrington, Michael Houser, Max Domi and Bo Horvat.  Teams of six golfers participated in a variety of contests including the hockey net shootout challenge and the Nike Golf put off competition all with the hopes of winning some great prizes and raising some money for a very worthwhile cause.

Childhood obesity rates have reached alarming rates and only 14% of school-aged children are even consuming the recommended 5-10 servings of fruits and vegetables each day.  The Children’s Nutrition Network student nutrition programs, at over 86 school across London-Middlesex, offer healthy breakfast, lunch or snack programs to help children in our community reach their potential.  In this past school year alone, 1,476,177 meals were served thanks to the generous support of their partners.

The London Knights Hockey Club recognizes the importance of nutrition for students wanting to learn and succeed in the classroom as well as on the ice.  It’s imperative that the London Knights players maintain a proper diet which includes nutritious choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner in order to perform both in the classroom and on the ice.

Not only will all of the money raised from this golf tournament go towards Investing in Children and the Children’s Nutrition Network but during the 2014-15 season, London Knights players will be in the community serving breakfast to those schools participating in the Children’s Nutrition Network student nutrition program in hopes of making their day a little brighter.  The London Knights Hockey Club is proud to partner with Investing in Children and The Children’s Nutrition Network to provide healthy breakfast, lunch or snack programs to kids in our local community.  For more information, please visit
