One of the exciting things about going to a Knights game is playing the 50/50 in support of local London charities. With the sudden end to the 2019-2020 OHL regular season we lost the ability to do one of the things Knights fans do best… give back.
Early on in this global pandemic the London Knights Hockey Club alongside the London Knights Alumni Foundation released the remaining 50/50 proceeds to the St Joseph’s Health Care COVID-19 Relief Fund to support the need close to home. After an extension was granted to the London Knights Alumni Foundation lottery license both groups put together a month long online 50/50 program that lined up with the 2016 Memorial Cup rerun on RogersTV where Knights fans could relive both the excitement of London Knights Hockey and playing the 50/50 in support of a local cause.
Together the London Knights, London Knights Alumni Foundation and the greatest fans in the CHL came together to donate $27,500.00 to the St Joseph’s Health Care COVID-19 Relief Fund. Medical researchers at St. Joseph’s are moving forward with testing a drug in clinical trials that could potentially prevent and treat this life-threatening disease, alleviate stress on the healthcare system and reduce the mortality rate. The St. Joseph’s Health Crisis Fund was created to accelerate novel treatments to combat the virus through St. Joseph’s research arm Lawson Health Research Institute. As well, support critical medical equipment and comfort items for healthcare workers across St. Joseph’s.
We can’t thank you enough London! We would also like to thank our partners at Corus Radio, The London Free Press and RogersTV for helping make this program a success.
