AUGUST 6TH, 2022 – The London Knights are coming home with some hardware after the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. Knights 2nd year players, Denver Barkey and Oliver Bonk were apart of Team Canada’s gold medal win over Sweden on Saturday in Red Deer, AB.

Barkey and Bonk helped Canada to a perfect 5-0 record, never trailing once, and outscoring all opponents 34-3. Barkey recorded 2 goals and 2 assists in 5 games during the tournament while Bonk was a steady, fundamental piece to Canada’s back end. Barkey’s best of game of the tournament happened to come in the most important one of the tournament. Before the gold medals were handed out, Denver Barkey was named the player of the game for Team Canada. Despite not recording a point in the game, his presence on the ice was largely noticed, killing key penalties, drawing penalties, and being a constant force on the forecheck.

Knights import selection, Kasper Halttunen brought home a bronze medal with Finland, defeating Czechia before the gold medal game. Halttunen was selected by the Knights in the 2022 CHL Import Draft on July 1st. Halttunen recorded 3 points in 5 games with Finland and his projected by many as an early 1st round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft next spring.

Barkey and Bonk both return home now and in just a couple short weeks they’ll return to London for the 2022-23 season as gold medalists.
